Details:

A practical, case-based seminar for CPAs and accounting professionals who advise closely held businesses. Using a valuation of a specialty glass and aluminum contractor as a working framework, the program follows the analytical path from engagement definition and financial normalization through CAPM, valuation approaches, reconciliation, and report support.

Participants will learn:

  • Define the valuation purpose, standard of value, premise of value, valuation date, and scope of work.
  • Normalize financial statements and identify owner compensation, nonrecurring items, related-party activity, and working-capital adjustments.
  • Apply and compare the Asset, Income, and Market Approaches—and understand when each approach is most persuasive.
  • Build a supportable cost of equity using CAPM: risk-free rate, beta, equity risk premium, size premium, and company-specific risk.
  • Convert earnings and cash flow into value through capitalization of earnings and discounted cash flow methods.
  • Reconcile indications of value; evaluate control, minority-interest, and marketability considerations; and document professional judgment.
